ESTORIL

One of the oldest and best-known golf courses in Portugal, Estoril was the location of the Portuguese Open Championship between 1953 and 1972, and so played a pioneering role for developing golf in Portugal. Many masters of the game - including Max Faulkner and Seve Ballesteros - have walked the fairways of this course.

Internationally famous for its location near the luxurious beach resort of Estoril, the course was designed by Mackenzie Ross. However, a number of alterations have been made to its original layout. The architect has made excellent use of the pine trees and eucalyptuses, which together with the uneven terrain make this course challenging in terms of accuracy rather than distance.

It is a short course, covering 5,200 meters for a par 69, but it provides an engrossing challenge. Its hole number 16 is internationally known, and consists of a par 3 of 184 meters.

The Estoril course hosted the Portuguese Open Championship between 1953 and 1972, and also in 1977 and 1987, as well as several non-pro international championships. This is why famous golfers of the caliber of Ramon Sota, Max Faulkner, Seve Ballesteros, Bernard Gallacher, Peter Aliss, and many others have played here.

For less experienced golfers there are another nine holes. Experienced caddies will provide you with all the course details and pitfalls. Nor should we forget the clubhouse. On the veranda overlooking hole number 18, and with the Atlantic Ocean beyond, you will be able to taste the delights of Portuguese cuisine.
