VALE DO LOBO

Vale do Lobo now has two sets of heighten holes (Ocean Golf Course and Royal Golf Course).

Opened in 1966, the Vale do Lobo course is today the centerpiece of a luxury holiday resort, just 20 kilometers from Faro International Airport.

Originally the golf course had 18 holes designed by Sir Henry Cotton; these correspond to today's yellow and orange courses. Later on, in 1972, a third loop of nine holes was added to become the green course. There are plans for yet another nine holes (the blue course) to bring the total to 36 holes.

Its rolling fairways run over sandy ground past eucalyptuses, pine, olive and orange trees. From the original eighteen holes one has spectacular views over the sea; the par 3 hole number 7 (yellow) really stands out, with 218 meters from a championship tee over three fantastic cliffs. It is without a doubt one of the most photographed golf holes in the world.

The Ocean Golf Course, has been revitalized to exceptional standards. Combining the two nine hole green and Orange Courses. This 18 hole course enjoys the most spectacular views of the Atlantic, and is one of the most popular courses in Portugal

With the opening of the new Royal Golf Course at Vale do Lobo, the resort now offers the finest of golfing options. Incorporating the famous cliff top hole the most photographed golf  hole in Europe – the new Royal Golf Course now includes challenging new lakes and natural valleys

Vale do Lobo also has a 245-meter practice course that is lit at night. In 1987 it was selected for the Portuguese Ladies' Open, a tournament that is part of the European circuit of professionals. Cathy Panton, of Scotland, was the winner.
