SAN LORENZO

Rare and multiform beauty matched by impeccable upkeep make this course a true "pearl" of Portuguese golf. Its eighteen widely ranging holes run past pine trees, lakes and beaches beside the Atlantic Ocean.

In 1993 San Lorenzo was voted Continental Europe's third best golf course by the magazine Golf World. Designed by Joseph Lee of the USA, the course's impeccable upkeep and its rare beauty make this an attractive challenge for any player.

Situated in the Quinta do Lago resort and forming part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a round on this course begins with an enticing but almost unreachable par 5 before continuing to the three following holes along rolling, pine-fringed fairways. It is from hole number 5, however, that the most extraordinary part begins, offering wonderful views over the Atlantic Ocean. At hole number 8 the course turns back inland, and faces the largest of the lakes. For the next four holes the course turns again seawards, and ends with a par 4 hole, whose green is surrounded by the waters of the second lake. A remarkable end to a remarkable course.

This course also has an excellent practice area.
