One of the world's most famous golf courses, Quinta do Lago is part of a resort area favored by members of the international jet set, and is bordered by the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
Its four nine-hole loops offer sufficient flexibility to allow four eighteen-hole combinations (all par 72); so Quinta do Lago offers a well-diversified challenge. The terrain is identical on all four courses, and relies on the natural characteristics of sandy soils covered by pine trees, heather and other wonderful wild flowers. William Mitchell of the USA designed loops A, B, and C, while his compatriot Joseph Lee was responsible for the newest loop, D.
Of all possible combinations (A/C, B/C, B/D, and A/D), the most famous is without doubt B/C. This course, christened the TPC course, earned its name after hosting the Portuguese Open/TPC (Tournament Players Championship) in 1989 and 1990. A true championship course, it is also agreeable for players with a higher handicap. In this combination hole number 15 requires a 200-metre shot right over a spectacular lake from the championship tee.
The modern clubhouse is sited near the starting point for all possible combinations.
